Alternate CT image trapping plugin (Not Esko Power Trapper)??

I am curious if anyone knows of a good solution or plugin for Illustrator that will trap CT images to vector backgrounds?

We currently use Esko's Power Trapper, but the service is very expensive. Looking for alternatives, but I can't find any.

Illustrator has a vector trap under Pathfinder menu, but that doesn't trap images.

Can you share a sample Illustrator file that shows what exactly you are trying to achieve?

Please explain what the Power Trapper is able to do and what you cannot do with Illustrator's native tools instead.
