Animated Zoom Stops Working - Illustrator 2024 & 2025 on macOS Sonoma 14.5

Whats happening is Im holding "Z" and using the animated zoom in and out using either the trackpad, a mouse, or a Wacom Tablet. At any point, it can just stop working. Mostly when I zoom in and then out quick. When this stops working, you only get the " Lasso Zoom option. " If you close the document, and re-open it, it resets.

It's the exact same thing that happens when you go into the "VIEW" menu, select " VIEW USING GPU "

Now when you hold down "Z" and use a mouse / track pad / tablet, you only get a lasso zoom.

I've gotten so used to using the Animated Zoom of the past 10 or so years, that it ruins my entire work flow.

So much so, I've just been using illustrator 2023 because this never happens on this version. I never used 2024 because of this, and I was just hoping it would be corrected by Illustrator 2025.

Computer Specs are

Apple M3 Max
64 GB of Memory
Sonoma 14.5

Has this been resolved for you? I am currently experiencing the same problem.

No luck. I've noticed it happens more frequently when there's a lot of paths. Or if I use " Mockup. " Other times it's just for no reason I've noticed. I have to Save the file. Close it. Then re-open it to reset it.

Hello @Provolone Wolf, @Stein Franken,

I'm sorry to hear you're having the same problem with Illustrator. Would you mind sharing some more information to be able to help you with this scenario:

For macOS computers:

1) AISniffer file

- Close all Adobe applications

- Navigate to the Illustrator Preferences folder and copy the AiSniffer file to the desktop from this location: Users/YOUR USERNAME/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator #(version Number)Settings > AISniffer

2) System Report

- You can generate it from the Apple icon > About This Mac > System Report > Save to the desktop.

For Windows computers:

1. AiSniffer file:

- Close all Adobe applications.

- Navigate to the Illustrator Preferences folder and copy the AiSniffer file to the desktop from this location:

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 28 Settings\en_US\x64\

2. For the System Report, kindly follow these steps:

- Please press Windows Key + the letter "R" on your keyboard to bring up the Run command window

- Type "msinfo32" in the Open field and left-click OK

- While viewing the Microsoft System Information summary, go to File, then choose Save (Please do not use Export)

- Save your MSINFO32 report as "msinfo32.nfo" on your desktop to easily locate it after. It can take up to a minute to generate a report.

Please upload the files to Google Drive/Dropbox/etc. and share a public link here or via DM so that we can investigate this further.

Also, kindly confirm if Illustrator behaves this way when working with specific files and share a small screen recording of the problem with replicable steps (if any) so I can check this on my end.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

And this does not only happen you use the trackpad? Because the gestures tend to fail every now and then, which has been a general Apple problem for years.
