I have a weird bug... I wanted to slighlty nudge some elements in a composition and was suprised when it deleted the elements I was trying to move.

So here's the behavior I observed :

When I press the right or up arrow key the selected layer disapear but it doesn't delete. I can still see it in the layer panel. And the left and down arrow brings it back...

I attached a screen capture of the behavior.

All right! I solved my problem! Turns out it wasn't deleting my shapes but it was moving them! Somehow, my keyboard increments that can be found in Illustrator > Preferences > General > Keyboard Increment was way way up. Like 9999999px. So I turn it down and problem solve!

I seem to remember a strange bug that affects the Keyboard Increment in the application preferences. Some specific actions (probably keyboard shortcuts) caused it, but at the moment I cannot reproduce it. I forgot the combination that triggers the behaviour.

I can't seem to figure out how to edit my post but I forgot to say what OS I'm using and all so there it is :

  • MacOS 14.0 Sonoma
  • Illustrator 28.0

When was the last time you rebooted the system?

Just before the screen capture I took. I also reinstalled Illustraor before it too!

Strange.

You may check if turning on CPU preview in the View menu helps.

Thanks for the quick response! Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem...
