Artboards disappear while switching between files opened in Illustrator

Can anyone weigh in on this one? When I have multiple files open in Illustrator at the same time and switch back and forth between them, I either see the same file that I switched from or nothing at all - no art board, no content. Also, when opening new files, there is a significant delay before the art board appears.

We are so sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing with Illustrator. That's definitely not normal. I would request if you can share a few more details like:

• OS and version of Illustrator 
• When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates or web extensions installed recently.
• Where the files are saved (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System /External HDD)?
• Does toggling between GPU and CPU Preview, by using Ctrl/ CMD + E helped resolving the issue?
