Automatically grouping objects

We routinely have to do grouping when making our illustations in Adobe Illustrator.  That can be over several thousand objects, grouped into bunches of only 50 or less.

It would be much more resource-efficient to have a module that can do the grouping of connected or overlapping objekts on the whole page automatically.

You may do as Ton suggests, but frankly speaking I doubt that it will obtain any kind of top priority there.

I would therefore recommend to share a couple of sample Illustrator files with some further instructions right in this forum. Perhaps there is a way to do it with existing tools or workarounds.
