Back up one version? Two?

Windows 10/64 up-to-date / 32 Gig Ram / Core i7 3.5 / NVDIA GTX 980 / Illustrator 27.5 / Wacom PTH 660 all up to date.

I'm working a project for my biggest client and Illustrator is crashing probably every three to five minutes of my work. I've created a new file and same results.

The problem seems to be around the tablet. If I work with a mouse, the problem pretty well goes away. I'm wondering if I back up a version or two if that might help.

I've been working with a tablet for more than 25 years so and this is the first time I've seen any issues. Any suggestions are welcome.

I may get some flak on this but to me, a tablet versus a mouse is analogous to a precision scalpel versus a broken Coke bottle.

Thanks to those who know more than me,
Joe

If you are running the latest Wacom graphics tablet driver then that is the cause for your program crashes. The two updates Wacom released for Windows in January are bad. They both cause Illustrator to crash. I had to roll back to the 6.4.0-11 driver released in November 2022. Illustrator runs properly with that one.

I am replying to myself on this post with new information. Just for grins, I opened the eps version of my file and worked on it for about 20 with no crash, using the tablet. As an experiment, I saved the eps as a copy,  then as an illustrator file, started working on it and in about four minutes, it crashed. So all works well as eps, but in crashomatic mode in illustrator. Does that tell anyone who knows more than me anything?

Thanks,

Joe
