Background behind a transparent logo or logo outline

I'm trying to add a background image behind an outline of a logo. Hard to explain, but trying to keep these background images within the lines of the logo so they don't extend past the logo. I've tried using the eraser tool, which works, but will take ages. Is there an easier way? I'm obviously a beginner, but here's a quick example...
