Bending an object

How can I bend the object in the image towards the vanishing point?

Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Mesh (one row/column in this example):

I still can't bend it in a way like the scenery of an actual highway, but lots of checkered flying carpet models I've got now:).   

It's just hard to handle the handles when you can't click the bullseye.
