Best way to remove spaces in-between Tab Leaders

What is the best way to remove the gaps that Illustrator creates when I am trying to create a solid underline via the Tab Leader by using the "_" character?

Yes, that should work definitively.

 

But how about with a character style (underline) for your tab only?

    Reducing the tracking should do that.

    This should definitely work. Can you set the Kerning to "Auto" instead of "Optical"?
