Bitmap Issues with Illustrator 28.5

Can no longer colour bitmaps or import them with transparent backgrounds in version 28.5.

Bitmaps now appear as it they were a JPEG when opened or imported into a new AI document.

Had to rollback the update to an older version.

Tif or psd works as a workaround.

You can drag the BMP file from PShop into Illustrator to keep the transparent background. But Placing it in Ill leaves you with a white background. I, too, just noticed this recent change.

That works, probably because the BMP is converted to .tif
