BLEND > MAKE greyed out after using INTERTWINE

Im using the in app tutorial for the new intertwine tool and wanted to see how the blend looked after I used INTERTWINE. Unfortunately when I click BLEND > MAKE is greyed out. 

It worked fine on the object prior to the INTERTWINE. Is this a bug or intentional?

You need to expand the artwork. It works as it's designed.

To some extent you can blend Intertwine objects by encapsulating them inside symbols, but you may discover some surprising results.
