Blend tool in Illustrator

I want to have a smooth gradiant between the two letters, lik it is shown in the preview when my curser is on the blend tool. But the Resukt ist just one letter in between with a inbetween colour. What am I doing wrong?

Please show your layers panel (layers unfolded) with the blend selected

The rich tool tip is not a preview.

And Smooth color is just a name for a specific kind of calculation. Usually it creates way too many objects. But sometimes it doesn't create enough. ALways use specified steps or specified distance.
