Blurry PNG export, weird zoom out sizing problem when exporting pdfs and pngs

Exporting PNGs and files in illustrator has never been a problem for me. Issues arose since yesterday, as I started working on a new project. I'm unsure if I somehow messed with settings without knowing. But when I go to export something as a PNG file, it comes out blurry. In addition, when I go to open the saved png file, the file is zoomed out weirdly.

When I go to export as a PDF, the similar weird zoomed out thing happens again. The difference is, when I zoom in, I can see that the PDF file is not blurry.

(Note: None of this has anything to do with the image, or font, or words / anything I'm using-- it's all very clear assets.)

I've attached examples.

(1) The view of what I see before going to export (screen inside illustrator)

(3) The view after I export as PDF, and open the file

This is super confusing and a bit frustrating, and I would really be incredibly grateful and appreciative for any help. Thank you so much in advance.

Thank you for taking the time. I don't use export for screens! I just go to "export as"

You could try if export for screens (1X/2X) gives a better result.

Your example AI screenshot is zoomed in 400%, so presumably it's quite a small artboard?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'zoomed out weirdly'. It looks like the PNG file is cropped to the text object, so saved with 'Use artboards' off?

Hi Doug,

Thank you for taking the time. I've tried changing to different artboard sizes, zooming in and out at different percentages, saving with and without artboards off, and nothing changes. For more insight, I've attached some images.

1) This is what the vector on my screen looks like before I go to export / do anything

2) This is what it looks like when I hit "view" and check "pixel preview"

3) This is what it looks like exported as a PNG with artboard. (blurry)

4) This is what the original looks like next to the PNG version that I added back into the space (just to see a clearer comparison)

And it'll happen with anything-- so even if I just use the text feature in adobe, I'll get the same result.
