Bring Back Live Trace (Balloon example Version)

I updated the other day and noticed my live trace has reverted back to the original version. (insert sigh of frustration here) I have fought live trace for most of my career because it just wasn't as good as I could manager with a pen tool quickly (been pen tooling outlines since 1998)  The balloon version of live trace was finally something that had some use for me. I work in the promotional products industry currently and use AI on a daily basis for proofs. The ability to outline a product, or a model with apparel with a click (Sillouhette) sped my workflow up so nicely. Goodness gracious it even helped with some pretty bad college student artwork with small tweeks to settings. I thought this was a fantastic tool for a speedy productive workflow for my industry at least.

 

For super creative logo recreation and art probably would still use the pen tool for detailed pieces.  Maybe a sillouhetting tool? Would be superhelpful i'm sure to a lot of creatives that use AI for an industry like mine.

Not sure what you mean by 'balloon version'?

Also unsure what is preventing you creating silhouettes. There is a silhouette preset in the current version, and has been as long as I can remember, or you can create your own with liberal use of the threshold setting.

I do currently use it. It just seemed to snap better to images and bad low-res artwork in the balloon version for some reason.The settings were shown with hot air balloons, thats why i mentioned that. Hopefully I can tweak the settings and have them stick for what I need.

The reworked image trace in the previous version was removed because it was widely regarded as significantly worse, though it may have been better for your specific use cases. See comments here:

I'm sure it will be reworked yet again in versions to come and hopefully work better for you. But you could always install version 27.6 for now if you need to:

If you do install the previous version, I'm sure it would be very helpful if you could provide some comparison images of traces that worked better for you between the two versions. If you had the time to join the prerelease program and share such comparisons there I think the dev team would very much appreciate it.
