Can Adobe Illustrator be purchased/used "standalone"?

Hi dears,

I hope you are well!

I just found out that I really want Adobe Illustrator 🙂
But what I couldn't figure out 100% for sure is: Can I just buy this single app (Illustrator for 20,99 US$/mo) or would I (additionally or, let's say, as a basis) need the Creative Cloud?

I guess it's the last. But I really want to avoid purchasing the Illustrator app for 1 year and afterwards finding out it's not working without the cloud 🤣

Have a great day!
Katrin

Katrin,

As I (mis)understand it, rest assured that Illustrator is one of the standalone apps in Creative Cloud which are alternatives to the full Creative Cloud All Apps (for 39,99 US$/mo).

So, you can just buy this single app.

Good morning dears,

Thanks a lot for your help!
Now I understand better how the system works.

Jacob, that's exactly what I wanted to know. Thank you so much! So, I understood that the Creative Cloud does not have "extra costs" if I don't subscribe to full Creative Cloud All Apps (for 39,99 US$/mo).

@doug: I want to create Logos, graphics for Websites, business cards and flyers. I think I can perfectly do all that with AI.

Thanks once more to all of you and have an awesome weekend!
Katrin

For my part you are welcome, Katrin.

And AI is well suited for logos, graphics for Websites, business cards and flyers.

Illustrator is licensed via Creative Cloud, but it runs on your computer. The Creative Cloud app makes sure that your subscription is still running. You need to be online for that check which happens once a month.

Your files can be saved on your computer or your own networked server. You don't need the Cloud for file handling.

'Creative Cloud' is the name for the Adobe service app that downloads and launches applications like Illustrator, and manages your (online) files, fonts, library items etc.

You can't purchase any Adobe app without getting Creative Cloud.

If you mean 'Can I use Illustrator without any of the other Adobe apps available via Creative Cloud' (such as Photoshop or InDesign), yes of course. Whether you need other apps depends on what you're trying to achieve. What do you want to do with Illustrator?

There is no standalone AI. There hasn't been for 10 years now. All apps are subscription based and require Creative Cloud. Once you stop paying, they will simply cease to function.
