Can I change the Direct Selection Tool to look like the original version of Illustrator?

The design of the current Direct Selection tools bugs me to no end. I feel like I'm drawing with an oven mitt over my mouse. I constantly miss selecting items and find myself cursing at why I feel so clumsy.

And then I realized it's because I spent my earliest years in graphic arts in the 80s. It was a simpler time. The tool pallet was elegantly uncomplicated. Oh how I yearn for the days when I had a sharp little pointer on a stick!

Seriously, the damn tool looks more like a Star Trek Federation badge than a precise cursor of selection. I want my old pointer back. Can this happen?

You can't, not in this version. You can return to an earlier version. Or put in a feature request.

(By the way your image is the selection tool not the direct selection tool. The direct selection tool is white.)

I agree. The 2017 tool icons feel clunky to me.

Forgive me, I should have clarified that this issue affects both the Selection and Direct Selection tool.

    Sigh to the feature request.

Some things come back when enough users put in feature requests.
