Can I make a wavy/swirly end to a rectangle without changing the shape of it on the oppsite side?

Well, the title says it all i think. I'm making a design for a sticker for my car and I wanted to add a checkered pattern to it. I want the pattern to be wavy or swirly (see 2nd screenshot) at the left near the taillight but I want the rectangle to stay straight where it meets the text. I also don't want the wavy part to deform completely. How do I do this?

You expand and ungroup the whole thing, then only manipulate the tail section - if need be one square at a time, but otherwise probably with something like an envelope distort.
