Can I recover my file with automatic data recovery disabled?

Hey everyone,

I have been working on a file and made use of the automatic file recovery before.

But after my latest crash illustrator decided to disable this feature. I have no idea why.

I have forgotten what the message exactly said but it was along the lines of: "illustrator has disabled automatic file recovery, you can enable it in preferences > ...."

I have tried looking for the recovery folder but it isn't there. Searching in windows yielded no results either.

Is there any hope left?

Regards, Dan.

Hi ninestars,

The auto recovery feature recovers a file in case of sudden Illustrator crash or similar situation. If you turn that off in the preferences, the app would stop to do so and I am afraid you won't be able to recover an unsaved document in that case.

P.S. Even if you go the recovery folder, you won't find an AI file there which can be recovered, the files saved there are only read by Illustrator and can't be open or recovered.

Regards,

Om

If you cannot find the file on your computer

If you cannot find the file on your computer or accidentally delete or change it, you can restore it from a backup (if you use a data archiving program) or try to restore a previous version of it. One possibility this might happen is that if you used automatic file recovery before and after the last crash, you might have disabled this feature. I recently had the same problem with a data recovery solution on the way, but I found a solution and successfully performed a data recovery using salvagedata
