Can I use blend tool on text imported from a photoshop document?

I am trying to use the blend tool on text that I created in a photoshop document, but after I set the blend options, the "make" tool is greyed out.  Can you use the blend tool on text that was created in photoshop?

If you look at your images imported from Photoshop in the Outline Mode (View Menu>Outline) all you will see is a couple of empty rectangles. That's because that type is only there in appearance—Illustrator is not seeing it as actual shapes that can be blended together. The Blend Tool will only not be greyed out when there are selected objects that can be blended.
