Hi again.
Can place a linked artboard inside another artboard ai file?
In other words can i link an .ai file to another file ai?
The problem is that i need to build a small workflow with 2 files:
1- in this file i build/design/assemble some final design dolls
2- in this file i have many design pieces (clothes, shoes, hairs, etc...) for every artboard that i take and place in the file 1.
The problem is that these pieces change often i need that works as images dynamically as image in InDesign.
How to do is? My problem is that i use Illustrator CS6 and do not have library.
The only solution could be use the symbol?
Thanks.
Mirta

You can do that when you save your AI file with "PDF compatibility"

Can you elaborate a bit on this?

Save one file as an AI file. Then place into new file.

If every design piece has it's own artboard in the file, don't forget to turn on Show Import Options in order to select the right artboard to place.

Really thanks Ton.
What do you think about this workflow? Do you understand/like it?
Are there better solution with Illustrator CS6?
Only to understand: Creative Cloud Libraries could be a solution for you?
Thanks.

if you want to link an ai file, CC library wont help you much
its best to stick with file > place
managed to get it to work?

Hard to say if it is a good workflow for you.
Using linked files you have to work very disciplined in order not to break links to placed files.
When you have many artboards in a file, it can become cumbersome to browse to the right artboard in the Place options window.
I would prefer to have these design items as separete files (easy to check in Illustrators save options "Save each artboard to a separate file"). And use Bridge to drag and drop them as linked files onto your doll design file.
CC libraries would not be a good solution for me at the moment, it does not feel relialable currently.

It's very hard to see that a Illustrator file con not be build with confort using pieces that are in external .ai file
Using separate file is a way but not easy when you have 250 small pieces for 45 product dolls.
The result is that i have 45 .AI file with 250 artboard for each one (every artboard is a piece).
It's more easy to have a 1 file with 250 artboard that 250 separate files.
So i use this 45 file to take pieces in artboard and load in separate final design file.
What do you think about this workflow? How can i do better?
PS: Symbol library could be a solution because pieces are very simple small design but have too many limits.

You can totally do this and link AI files in another AI file. Just save them PDF compatible and then place them and don't forget to link them, don't embed them.
