Question

Can't edit anchor points when locking another layer

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if it's a bug. When I lock any layer inside a layer group, I can't edit any anchor points within the layer group. I don't see any clear reason why this is happening. I've attached a video showing the issue. Interestingly, this only occurs in this one layer group, not in others.v

I am experiencing the same issue. It works for me if the locked objects are on a completely separate layer. This means I have to work in a similar way to Photoshop, which is infuriating.

Is anyone else experiencing anchor point issues with the 2025 illustrator version 29.4. When a specific object is locked on a layer, the anchor points of non locked objects are frozen and cannot be moved using the direct selection tool. Previous versions of illustrator did not have this issue. I work very fluidly so having objects on separate layers disrupts my work flow.

Thank you! Glad to know other people are experiencing this bug as well.

I have been losing my mind with this bug! I have figured out that if you unlock everything then I can move them, but if I lock anything on my document at all it doesn't allow me to move my anchorpoints.

As far as I can see, it's a nasty bug in the latest Illustrator version (29.4) when the "Select and Unlock objects on canvas" option is turned on in the application preferences.

It does not happen when this option is turned off.

Actually it happens in any layer group, but I've noticed it only occurs for the layers above the one that's locked.
