can't edit imported graphic

I can move and resize imported graphics but I can't modify them, for example paint over them, even after I have saved the document.

It is an image, to edit images you will need an application like Photoshop.

In Illustrator you can add vector elements on top of the image or apply some filters, but editing is limited.
