Can't keep brush stoke weight in Illustrator

Hi guys

I have a very annoying problem with Illustrator.

My default brush stroke weight is 1.0 - I don't know how to change that.

When I set the stroke weight to e.g. 0.3 it instantly returns to 1.0 when I begin drawing and after I draw the first line I will have to set the weight to 0.3 once more.

How can I set a stroke weight that is retained all the time I make a drawing?

Since I can't solve this problem by surfing the internet there must be a simple solution/explanation.

What tool are you using to draw? I cannot simulate and used the shape tools, pen tool. In any case.

Change your default;tl graphic style

Dra w a line adn dial in your setting

Then Option drag over the default graphic style.

You can then select any path on hit "D" to assign the defatil style

You used to be able to edit the for example print.ai document profile, adn when you creat a new document using that profile the settings would hold. You can clean up your swatches using that technique,  but the default reverts to 1.9.

Thanks Mike.

I enclose three screen dumps.

1. The weight is 1,0

2. I set the weight to 0,3

3. It automatically go back to 1,0

I'm going nuts ...

So you are using the brush tool?

And you want to draw just a basic line?

You probably set the brush to "Basic" in the brushes panel?

"Basic" is not a brush. It deletes the brush from a stroke. The brush tool can't and won't draw without a brush.

If you want to draw without a brush use the pencil tool.

By @oleschwander

I think that you are drawing with the brush tool. And that exactly is causing your problems.
