Can't map self created symbol on 3D object

So I am currently trying to draw the earth in Illustrator.

I am still a beginner so I watched a YT tutorial and did everything as he did.: https://youtu.be/bfek4o5grwA

But the mapping part didn't work for me, or atleast with my own symbol, because with the default symbols it worked perfectly fine. It doesn't matter what object I use, whether with the globe nor with a cube. So I guess my problem must be with the symbol.

There are 3 invisible anchor points in your symbol. You need to delete them.

I know a correct answer was selected, but I discovered two other reasons why a symbol may not properly wrap.

1. If the symbol is a pattern.

2. If the symbol is a graphic inside a clipping mask.

If you double click the Symbol in the Symbol panel, select all and choose Object > Compound Path > Make.

Exit the Symbol editing mode and it works (don't ask why).

When you say it 'didn't work'; what happened instead?

Nothing I just cant see my symbol on the object. Regardless of how I arrange the area.

Have you tried switching between the surfaces in the Map Art window?
