Can't open .ai file

I made a .ai file yesterday and even exported it to png. It consists of 16 artboxes. The file is 116 MB. When I try to open it, it says:

The file size has exceeded the permitted limit and cannot be saved.

 I would like to eddit the file and reuse it.  Can anyone help me?

And the warning comes from where? Illustrator?

Can you show a screenshot of the warning?

How much spare space is there on your harddisk?

How much RAM?

There is 833 GB free so that shouldn't be a problem.

RAM is 16 GB so that shouldn't be a problem either.

I kinda think the whole document is broken. I can't move it to another place on my computer. It gives the same warning.

So the system creates the warning?

Get an expert to have a look at your system and check your harddisk for issues.
