Can't open ai files

I can't open any of my ai files. When I save them the icon is just white and I can't open them with any other programs either. I don't get any error messages.

Which system?

Exactly where do you save them? And which options?

What's in the files?

Is there any error message?

 

If you don't reboot the system regularly, now would be a good moment.

I saved them on local disk

No error messages

I tried rebooting my system, didn't fix the problem.

I just noticed, because I wasn't using Illustrator for a while. 

Yes, I did have a Windows update a couple days ago actually. But I don't have this problem with other Adobe programs.

In a Windows update several things can go bonkers.

Check your printers and then re-set the default printer driver. If you have a orinter, set it to that printer. If you don't have a printer, set it to the PDF printer.

Although the GPU acceleration doesn't affect file opening, you might want to check your graphic card driver compatibility.

I don't have a printer, but I did set it to the PDF printer. It didn't work. I don't think it's my graphic card and driver, because everything used to work, and now I have a problem with Illustrator only.

What also can go south are the Illustrator preferences.

 

You can try and reset them by renaming the Preferences folder. Shiut down Illustrator and then rename the folder. You can also just reset the preferences, but then your settings are gone for good.
