Can't scroll up-down using arrow keys

Hello,
I was using Illustrator CS5 (Windows 10) when something strange happened. The selection got stuck on the menu bar at the top. With the arrow keys I could only move between the menu tabs. I managed to position the cursor on the workspace, but then I realised I could not use the arrow keys to scroll up and down the file. I could still move objects with the arrow keys in Illustrator and the scroll function worked fine on Chrome and other applications.
I have tried closing/rebooting AI. I have restarted my laptop. I have checked Preferences > General > Keyboard increments (set at 3528mm). I suspect that I may have pressed the wrong keys and unwittingly locked the scroll function of the arrow keys. I have tried looking for a solution on various webboards, but I have not found the solution to my problem.
I would really appreciate your suggestions.
Best regards,
N.

Reset all preferences to default settings
Close the program completely, open it again and Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Illustrator. Your current settings are deleted.
Resetting preferences can be helpful if you are having problems with the application.

Thank you for the suggestion, but it did not work. Anything else I can try?

In Preferences try setting the Keyboard distance to something less than 3-1/4 meters.
