Cannot apply gradient after the texts are grouped

Hi,

I humbly seek help and guide as the Paragraph text is applied gradient from the Colour Swatch and they look ok. However when it is Outlined, it turns to Black text and I apply the same gradient, it turns into different gradient as shown in my screenshot. Appreciate if anyone can advise. TQ

    That's how gradients generally work in Illustrator. They adapt to the size of the artwork.

    David, Hi

     

    Here I used the Text Tool, set my type, then gave it a Fill color of None.

    Switch to the Selection Tool (Black arrow)

    In your Appearance Panel, Add a New Fill, Select your gradient swatch.

     

    OK, you want outline text. No problem

    It retains the same gradient you assigned.

      Hi K,

      Yes, your method is correct but I need to ungroup all the text and group the individual name. Once I ungroup all and select each name to regroup. The wrong gradient is seen again.

        Don't group the names, make them compound paths.


        Hi Monika,

        Yes, if you make the name as compound paths, I need to select the just one name at a time and click the Swatches to apply the gradient. But if I use the Graphic Style method, I can group each name individually and select all names altogether and apply the Graphic Style. Am I correct? TQ

        Try to group the text first when it is still black.

        Then add a new gradient fill above the contents in the Appearance panel.

        Then Create Outlines.

          I did it this way, the gradient is wrong even I picked it from the Swatch.
