I humbly seek help and guide as the Paragraph text is applied gradient from the Colour Swatch and they look ok. However when it is Outlined, it turns to Black text and I apply the same gradient, it turns into different gradient as shown in my screenshot. Appreciate if anyone can advise. TQ
Try to group the text first when it is still black.
Then add a new gradient fill above the contents in the Appearance panel.
Then Create Outlines.
I did it this way, the gradient is wrong even I picked it from the Swatch.
Then kphotopage tip is the next thing to try.
Here I used the Text Tool, set my type, then gave it a Fill color of None.
Switch to the Selection Tool (Black arrow)
In your Appearance Panel, Add a New Fill, Select your gradient swatch.
OK, you want outline text. No problem
It retains the same gradient you assigned.
Yes, your method is correct but I need to ungroup all the text and group the individual name. Once I ungroup all and select each name to regroup. The wrong gradient is seen again.
Can you share an example .ai file?
CC filesharing, Dropbox, Google, WeTransfer...
You had 2 fills.
I selected the text with the arrow selection tool
Double clicked the Characters item in the Appearance panel to get the character fill.
In the Toolbar I removed the fill (set it to none)
Type > Create Outlines
I think this method is to cater for one name. If there are whole paragraph of names, you need to ungroup and regroup each name.
These were my steps, I made a copy of the text, no need to group.
I need to group each name to be placed into other artwork. How do I accomplish it? TQ
You could use Object > Expand Appearance and group each name.
The gradient looks different.
Instead of grouping, try compound paths.
David, Here I selected my Outline Text, Grouped.
Save as a Graphic style.
Ungroup your outline text.
I then regrouped each “name”.
On a Group level, I assigned my Gold Gradient Graphic Style.
It retains the original gradient.
Need to save as a Graphic style. Then ungroup and regroup the "Name" and select the "Name" by clicking the gradient in the Graphic Style NOT the Swatches.
Don't group the names, make them compound paths.
Yes, if you make the name as compound paths, I need to select the just one name at a time and click the Swatches to apply the gradient. But if I use the Graphic Style method, I can group each name individually and select all names altogether and apply the Graphic Style. Am I correct? TQ
You need to select and group them each individually anyway, right? Instead of grouping, make a compound path.
And then just like with a group, you can select them all and addply the graphic sryle to all of them at once.
Yes after Outline all names, ungroup all and group each name to apply Graphic Style.
