Cannot Remove Gray Outline from Around Type

Hi. I'm working on a design for a business card in Illustrator CC 2017. A gray stroke or outline appears around all of my text, and I can't remove it. (Definitely want it gone.) I've been using Century Schoolbook Bold at 12 pts, but the problem occurs with other fonts, too. I imagine the fix is probably really simple and I'm just overlooking it; still... very annoying. I haven't applied a stroke to the text (stroke is set to none); anti-aliasing is turned off in Preferences; and I don't think I've applied a fill twice. Also, if I export to Save for Screens (Legacy) or Export for Screens, the saved image still shows a gray outline around the text.

Help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Please keep the text selected and show the appearance panel and the layers panel.

Your solution worked. Selected text, showed appearance panel, went into layers on appearance panel and turned off stroke. Gray stroke disappeared. Thanks so much for your help!
