Cannot save new action

I am new to Illustrator and do not know much about computers. I am in a graphic design class and am trying to set up shortcuts and new actions. I recorded the action of cloning (Ctrl +C, Ctrl + F) and stopped, then went to the fly out menu to select "save actions". It is the only thing in the menu that I CANT select. I do not have 3rd party plug ins. I've reinstalled AI, restarted my computer, same thing. What is going on here?

As Doug already indicated, you have to explicitly highlight the action set entry (folder icon) in the Actions palette to make the Save Actions command available in the Actions palette flyout menu.

Actions are saved as sets, not individually. Either save your new default set, or create a new set containing your action and save that.

Yes, I did create a new set. And then I went to new action, recorded what I wanted, and went to the menu but can't save it.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Thank you! I reached out to my professor and he didn't know how to help other than reinstalling AI, but that didn't work, either.
