Hello everyone! I would like to know if there is a way to highlight one or more words within a text area, just as it can be done so simply with Microsoft Word, without having to convert it to point text or draw a rectangle behind each word. I know there are alternative ways through the appearance window, but it doesn't apply to what I need.
I attach a screenshot.
kphotopage, hi!
Thank you for your suggestion. I know that what I am trying to achieve, is practically impossible in illustrator for now. I'm looking for a dynamic way to do it. I know that in InDesign it's much easier with paragraph styles. The problem is that I am using illustrator to create posts for Instagram, and InDesign (it is my way of thinking at least) is not so practical for this type of work.
The reason I'm so picky about this feature is that I don't want the dynamic feel of the text t

I'm sure there's some script or plug-in out there that can do highlighted text, but otherwise it's not a native function. You could also try and experiment with text styles and complex appearances to fake it. here's some link I found in a three-second-search:

Juanq, Hi.
What you are requesting is also very easy to do in InDesign using Paragraph Rules.
You can place your vote here for Illustrator.

Yes, I was thinking about the same thing, using CC libraries.
I made a character style withb a modified underline (thicker, moved up).
Dragged the textframe to a CC library.
Unfortunately Illustrator wants to use its own version of underline, which does just that; underline.
You need to first create a group in InDesign (empty, no fill/stroke rectangle + the text object with the style) before you add it to the Library.
After that you can drag it into an Illustrator document and modify it in InDesign if needed.

Thanks for your idea, I hadn't thought to link it through the cc libraries.
On the other hand, I was thinking of some script that, when selecting a part of the text, creates a rectangle behind it with the appearance parameters established in said panel.
I pose it but I don't know anything about programming to achieve this. I see that everyone has understood my request, but I also realize that perhaps it is too specific. I'm thinking of closing the issue.
Thank you all for your contributions!

The reason I'm so picky about this feature is that I don't want the dynamic feel of the text to be lost. Besides, and this breaks my head, in Microsoft Word it's SO EASY!!! Although I know that they are programs with very different purposes.
Anyway, I appreciate all kinds of suggestions.
