Change default import artboard size/orientation

Question

I need to import several dozen .DWG files into illustrator and have them 'fit to artboard' - trouble is, I don't see how I can choose an artboard size. There is no default setting to change that I can see - I'm lumped with A4 Portrait wheras I need A3 landscape.

Can anyone help? I can't find nothing here on on the open web; all I can find is how to change the artboard sizes after the event (which I already knew how to do)

Are they all the same size? Once you set up one doc, every time you create a new one it will be the same size until you change it.

Alternatively create your own preset and put it here: C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 26 Settings\en_US\x64\New Document Profiles (Windows 10, you'll have to google the mac one)
