Please point me to a tutorial which explains the changes between the new 3D extrude & bevel and classic. I created an item using the new tool but seem unable to convert to editable vectors. I've done this many times with previous versions of the software using "expand appearence" but the new version seems to want me to select "render as vector" on the pallet before expanding. When I select this, the item changes in unwanted ways. Thank you.
You can still use the Classic 3D effects and in some situations it's necessary to do so, because the render as vector of 3D&materials just can't do it in the way classic can.

I created a simple cube and mapped art to it by turning the surfaces into symbols. But I want to edit colors/shapes and no longer need the 3D in an editable form. I feel it would be easier to expand everything to individual vectors then edit from there. But doing so in the new "extrude and bevel" is causing unexpected changes to the shapes such as straight lines becoming less than straight. It is as if the "covert to vector" is not a conversion but an auto trace of a photo.

Use the classic 3D effects. They are still there in the submenu
