I hired a graphic artist to create a design for a t-shirt. He forwarded it the graphic, but I want to change a particular picture. I keep trying to click on to the particular picture I want to change, but it is not capturing it. Am I able to change the picture the graphic artist sent over or does he have to do it. It can do it how??!!! Completely new to AI.
These are all pixel images; is there a reason you want to use Illustrator for this?
You cannot select individual parts of a pixel image in Illustrator (because there are no individual parts to select).
Some of your options are:
1. Go back to the designer with your request.
2. Ask the designer for the AI file or whatever their original working file was.
3. Mask the PNG image to remove the top part and re-save the PNG with your image placed there; as long as the resolutions are comparable.

...The simplest way might be just using the marquee tool. Delete what you don't want and drag in the elements you have.

What kind of file did he create? An AI file or something else?
What do you see in the layers panel for the file? Expand layers with the little chevron next to the name to see their contents.
If in doubt, please share a screenshot with the object you want to change selected and the layers panel visible.

It is a PNG file.
Looks like there is only one layer.
I am attaching the screen print, the graphic and the image I want to replace the top picture of the man meditating.

Thanks so much for your feedback. For the photoshop option, how would I do it?

How familiar are you with Photoshop?

Much more than AI. I have created more content there. My guess is to open a new document, insert the file and somehow cover the old image with the new. Not sure how that would save. I will also be attempting to remove "Be Indomitable" so it will just be the guy sitting with the Phoenix behind him.

...the toolbar? Are you sure you've used Photoshop before?

Of course I know of the toolbar, but there are several options on the toolbar. I mostly create flyers for business. Apparenlty nothing overly creative. Insert pics, test boxes, master, etc. are basically what I use. I am a martial arts instructor, not a graphic person.
