Character Strikethrough (and Underline) Not Working

I've used the character tool for doing strikethrough, underlying in the past with no issue.  I highlight the desired text for the attribute, click on the strikethrough box on the character tool and nothing happens.  I've used this numerous times in the past.  I've tried adding a new text box and I have the same results.  I sent my file to a friend, she had no problem doing it on my file.  She sent the file back to me, and the strikethrough shows, but on her file I can't unchange it.  Makes me think it it is my setup.  I tried doing an update to latest version, and still doesn't work.  Thinking now to do complete uninstall and reinstall.  Any other suggestions.  FYI, I'm not a regular user, but know enough to get done what I need done.
