Circles to make rounded corners are missing

Hello.

There used to be a quick method to round corners in Illustrator. However, the circles that used to appear inside the corners no longer show up. I attached a screenshot of what is missing. In the screenshot the circles are there and the person can edit. Mine however, are not showing up and I am left with a rigid uneditable shape. Thanks!
