Is there a hotkey which allows you to drag to create a selection box without selecting and moving the object below the cursor?

If not, can we please create one? It would save SO much time locking and unlocking stuff.

In some cases enabling the "Object Selection by Path Only" option in the application preferences may help.

In some other cases the enclosed mode may also help (see https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/selecting-objects.html).

And sometimes the Magic Wand tool can help as well.
