Clipping Mask Showing When Client Prints

Hi all. I'm having an issue where I send a .pdf version of their sample design to a client via email. When you look at the design on screen, everything looks as it should. However, when the client prints the design, the box where the clipping mask is, is illuminated. 

Please see below, the top two pictures is how it has printed. The below one is how it should look (without the white square). I've tried adjusting the printing settings within AI, adjusting the output settings when going to File > Save As > PDF.

The printer the client is using very likely does not have an Adobe-certified print engine capable of printing PDF documents natively. Objects with clipping masks, transparency effects, etc can be prone to exhibit problems like visible discolored boxes. It doesn't matter if they're printing from Adobe Reader. I see this very thing from my office laser jet printer at work; it has to interpret PDF files as best as it can, which isn't great. The large format RIP applications we use have Adobe PDF print engines. When they output PDF files generated by Adobe Illustrator all the visual "bells and whistles" that can be incorporated into PDF artwork prints successfully.

Looks like Yucky discolored box syndrome.

Hi Monika. Thank you for your reply. This issue is still ongoing unfortunately after taking the advice from this article. The .pdf is being printed on MacOS. I don't know if this helps any further.

Are they using Acrobat?


Yes.
