Did you select the rectangle? Make sure you are in preview mode?

If you need more help, maybe post a screenshot of your entire screen. We could then for example exclude the 2 suggestions I made.

Which version and which system is it?

When you just want to change the color of something, why don't you just use the color panel?

Have a look at the Appearance panel with the object selected, there may be multiple fills withe wrong one selected, or there may be a fill applied to the layer.

Thank you all for the replies...I am selecting the rectangle and it seems like there is only one fill. When i change the cmyk values and press enter ans select back the rectangle and check the colors, i see that the original color codes are not changed.

don't know why?

Thanks, that looks normal. What happens if you select the object and click the fill color in the appearance panel, can you change the color?

It would be easier if you would share an .ai file that shows the problem, maybe just the stubborn rectangle.

Share the file using CC filesharing or other like Dropbox, Google, WeTransfer

You could check if you have run into this issue: the video explains it for strokes, but it can happen to fills as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZooJyG2UT4

that is really strange there is no layer 🙂 can't understand why i can't change the color.

-file is in cmyk mode

-i am selecting the rectangle and it is color codes are lets say 10,20,30,40

-i am clicking on the color and change the values to lets say 90,80,70,60 then i press enter

-then i select somethingelse in the file and select back the same rectangle

-when i check the colors of the rectangle it is still 10,20,30,40 and as you can see there is no layers or any other rectangles on top of eachother.

thanks for helping me.

You have the numbers, so there's really no need to use the color picker at all. Does the same happen when you use the color panel?
