Color Palette Question + ASE color files

Question

I placed a PSD image onto my illustrator artboard for reference. When I tried to eyedropper to get the colors from the PSD and add it to a new color group, it says "color groups cannot contain the none color or the registration color". What does this mean? What do I need to do to get the colors from the image?

I also want to ask about color swatches ASE files. I tried to open a color swatch ASE file, but it wouldn't open. I got the message that it is an unknown format and cannot be opened. What do I do?

I'm a complete beginner in learning Illustrator.

A registration color is a special swatch that contains all process and spot colors, and is not available in an image. None is no color and cannot be added to the swatches because there is already an option in the swatches panel to apply none as fill or stroke.

Try holding down the Shift key while using the eyedropper. And make sure the image is embedded to get the real colors from the file.

ASE swatches should be opened from the Swatches panel.
