Color Picker Changes Stroke to Fill -Just Want Color

Hi All,
I tend to make up a lot of small squares (fills) as I work and assign different colors to each square, so I have a color swatch, via random squares, spread around my artboard as I work. The problem I encounter is that when I want to change the color of a stroke, when I select the color from one of those pre-made color squares that are fills, the stroke or path converts to a fill, along with the color. I understand why this happens, simply looking for a way to select the color only and not have the fill attribute carry over as well with the picker. This must be a very simple hot key or the like, but for decades I've just never figured it out. Thanks in advance for any tips on this!

Correct answer Ton Frederiks

If you have an object selected and click with the eyedropper on another object you apply both stroke and fill (if that is specified in the eydropper settings).

If you have an object selected and Shift click with the eyedropper on another object it depends on where you click (on the stroke or fill) and what has the focus in the toolbox, stroke or fill.

So if you Shift click on a fill and the stroke is targeted the stroke gets the color of the fill.

You can use the X key to switch focus between stroke and fill.
