Colors lost when changing from RGB to CMYK

Hi,

I have a color EPS file that is in RGB.

If I try to bring it in to a CMYK file, it turns gray.

If I try to change the original documents color mode, it turns gray.

If I try to place the original file it turns gray and has a white background...

Any idea why this happens or how I can prevent it?

Thanks!

Correct answer Ton Frederiks

Object > Flatten Transparency with Preserve Alpha Transparency before changing to CMYK should work.

What kind of file is it? Perhaps one of these glowing clipart things?

It's a watercolor circle. I tried uploading the file but it didn't work for some reason.

Trying again now.

How is your coor management setup (Edit > Color Settings...)?

Did you try to assign an RGB profile (Edit > Assign Profile...)?

The original is RGB but I want to use it in something that will be both digital and printed so I need it to work in CMKY as well.

Put it on Dropbox or the like and post a link here.
