Hi there.. Is there a way of combining individual text boxes into one text box in Illustrator (25.2)? Have to edit a file from PDF format and some of the text boxes split up after opening. Thanks!

Correct answer Monika Gause

You just imported the PDF and did not change anything in the stacking order of those text object?

Select all the text objects and copy them.

With the text tool draw an area text (a rectangle). The cursor should now be blinking in the text object.

Edit > Paste.

I found a better way to do it: https://ajarproductions.com/blog/2008/11/23/merge-text-extension-for-illustrator/

He has a script and works perfect! Saves LOTS of time.

I just opened the PDF (File > Open) and no, I didn't change the stacking order.

Thank you, this solution worked perfectly.

No easier way to do that, eh? I have this problem every time I open a PDF, and there are hundreds or thousands of separated text blocks. Selecting them, deleting and pasting each section is so time consuming. I wish AI could recognize this and deal with it for me.
