Control Panel's Brush Definitions label WIERD

This is the label that appears in the control panel:

When I hover, it shows Brush Definitions. Is that what 5Eio means...to Old MacDonald maybe? Seriously, what's going on?

That did the trick. But one thing--according to the info in the link you provided, restarting AI while holding  Alt+Control+Shift prompts me to delete current settings. That didn't happen. AI launched without a prompt, but settings were apparently reset (including Brush Definitions ). Everything is copacetic now, so thanks!

Good to hear that worked.

And you are right, you are not prompted in Illustrator, that is what happens when you reset Photoshop, so the Help file is wrong.

Probably a font problem. Do you have the Verdana ( 4 faces) and Tacoma (2 faces) properly installed and active?

Thanks for the advice, but those fonts are installed and active. I reset preferences, and that fixed the problem. But I'll remember to check those two fonts if something like this happens again.
