Controlling rounded corners with the rectangle tool in AI CS6

I am still working off of AI CS6 and I cannot figure out how to control the rounded corners using the rounded corners rectangle tool. This applies to both initially creating the shape and adjusting it later on once it's been built. Is this possible? Thank you.

Rounded corners of the rounded rectangle are not "live".

Only thing you can do is apply Effect > Shape > Rounded rectangle.

Using the rounded rectangle tool, as you draw and without letting up on your mouse use the up and down arrows for a interactive control. Once you get the desired chamfer shape let up on the mouse and your rectange pop-up will appear. There you can adjust your angle and size and create another more precise rectange or just cancel and keep the one you created.

I should mention without using the anchor handles with the anchor point tool...
