Is there a way to convert a .aco file to a .ase file so it can be imported into Illustrator 5.5? The .aco file was generated by Photoshop CS 5.5.
Yes. Load the .aso swatches into Photoshop, then use swatches palette > > Save swatches for exchange to make a .ase. You can then in Illustrator swatches >> open swatch library >> other library.

In 2017, you still need this behemoth called Adobe Photoshop to convert .aco palettes to use in other Adobe applications. I mean, the same company develops said applications yet you cannot use their proprietary formats between apps? Sheer incompetence from a highly profitable, highly staffed company. SMH!
