Converting text to shapes on illustrator app

Hi all, is it possible to convert text to shapes on illustrator app for ipad

or slice through text?

im trying to create the image below, that's what I've done so far but I have just added two texts on top of each other and put some lines through.

im trying to make it one shape by slicing or intersecting, so when it's printed you won't se the lines that run through the text

There are pathfinder functions so you can subtract shapes from each other.

Outlining text is possible via the text menu button on the right of the screen.
