Copy/Paste action is breaking my clipping mask layer/group? How do I fix this?

I'm trying to copy/paste a clipping mask layer/group or any selection that includes a clipping mask layer/group, and when I paste my clipping mask breaks. I'm pretty sure this is not normal but I don't know how to fix it or what settings to look at for it. I have tried adobe illustrator 2021 and 2022 and it happens on both, and I have sent my files to others on other computers and they have the same result where the clipping masks break when copied/pasted. Is there anything I can try or anywhere I should be looking in my options and settings?
