Hi all,
I’m running into a really frustrating issue in Illustrator and hoping someone can help or confirm if this is a bug.
Whenever I copy text from a Point Type object and paste it into an Area Type text box, Illustrator pastes the correct text but also includes a chunk of old text from something I copied dozens of attempts ago. This old text repeats infinitely inside the Area Type box. It just keeps duplicating itself over and over, flooding the box.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far (none of these have worked):
Restarting Illustrator and my computer
Creating a brand new file
Pasting into a plain text editor first (like Notepad or TextEdit) to strip formatting
Using Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + V to paste in place
Clearing out overset text and checking for threading
Manually clearing windows clipboard
Uninstalling and reinstalling Illustrator
Despite all that, the moment I paste into an Area Type box, that old text comes back. It doesn’t happen when pasting into a Point Type box, only Area Type.
Has anyone experienced this? Is there a deeper cache I can clear, or is this a known bug?
Thanks in advance!

I just tried on macOS 15.5 and Illustrator 29.6.1 and cannot confirm this behavior.
Can you please tell us your operating system and your Illustrator version? If possible try to make a screen to show the issue.
Here is a description on how to do this on Windows: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/learning-center/how-to-record-screen-windows-11
And on a Mac: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102618

THere are a couple of apps that interfere with Illustrators clipboard.
If you have any of this, you could be affected.
