Question

Copy/Paste-in-Place lands on gray, not artboard.

Please help! (Mac user 10.12.6, Illustrator CC) I created a file with 6 artboards (two rows of three). I copied from another illustrator file, opened my new file then clicked on the artboard I wanted to paste to, and hit 'paste in place.' However, the image didn't paste to the artboard, it pasted far to the left in the gray area. I need every image to attach to each artboard EXACTLY where it needs to be on each artboard. Moving it around to fit on the artboard is not an option. I was on a chat with Adobe for over 1 1/2 hours with no answer. They sent me a link that says if I copy/cut, then paste, it could end up in the gray, but that wasn't the case for me. It seems that if my artboard is selected, and the file it will go into is selected and I hit paste in place, then it should do exactly that. I'm so frustrated and I'm praying I reach some very smart designer guru's on here. Thanks in advance!!!

I found that unclicking "align art to pixel grid on creation and transformation" allowed me to paste the content on all artboards correctly. I was then able to turn this feature back on and the paste in place still worked properly. Not sure if this is a complete fix but worth a try!

I just came across this because I had the same issue. I found that locking my guides on the artboard I was copying from solved the issue. Try locking or deleting your guides, see if it helps you too.

The artboards are all the same size. I do have the ruler on, but the origins of the rulers are not the same because in the file I'm copying from there are 9 artboards (3 rows, 4 in the top two and 1 in the last row.) (Tried command-F - didn't work.)

As Monika suggested, make sure your rulers are set to “Artboard Rulers” and make sure the Artboard you have selected is tha same size as the original artboard that you copied from.

Did you try command-F to paste? If that doesnt work, try resetting your rulers to the artwork bounds before pasting? Also, make sure, in the Artboatds panel, that you dont have more than one artborad in your document?

Are the artboards the same size in each file?

Are both files set to artboard rulers?

Are the origins of the rulers the same in both files?
